The summer the FIA presents from its permanent collection: Art of the Americas, Africa, and Asia, as well as European and American masterpieces. An authentic experience with something for everyone. You won't believe your eyes!

M.C. Escher: Rhythm of Illusion
Through June 15
Explore 80 of Escher’s famous perspective-bending prints and drawings, as well as his lesser-known early works. Also included are preparatory drawings, which allow the viewer to explore the artist’s process alongside his completed works.

Jacques Moitoret

Through June 15
View portraits of 18 of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century, by artist Jacques Moitoret. Each painting portrays the artist with a famous example of his or her work.

Ed McGowin: Name Change
July 12 – Sept 28
McGowin legally changed his name 12 times in order to create paintings, sculpture, and installations that reflect 12 distinctly different artistic identities. He adopted this strategy to challenge the conventional notion that an artist’s work and career should be limited to a singular style and context.

41st Annual Flint Art Fair

Saturday, June 14 (10am – 6pm)
Sunday, June 15 (11am – 5pm)
The grounds of the Flint Cultural Center will host artist’s booths with treasures for collectors of all types. Selections range from sculpture, painting and photography to ceramics, glass, textiles, and fine jewelry.
Admission: $5 Adults, $4 FIA members, $3 senior citizens, children under 12 and Friends of Modern Art members.


FIA Art Camp
Ages 5 – 12
Week One; Ancient Civilizations: July 7-11
Week Two; Summer Olympics: July 14-18
Week Three; Puppet Theatre: July 21-25
Campers learn the fundamentals of drawing, painting, clay, fiber art, and natural material sculpture and design while engaging in productive summer play such as yoga, board games and game design. Other activities include outdoor games, art related videos, and creative play. Ages 5-8 and 9-12 will share space while learning age specific curriculum in separate pods.

Art a la Carte
Wednesdays at 12:15pm

The Art a la Carte program offers informative videos focusing on the arts. Visitors are encouraged to bring lunch. Coffee, tea and cookies are provided.

FIA Lecture Series

The Bray Gallery and Other Tapestry Collections in America

Lecture May 2, 6pm
Ms. Bremer-David will discuss the role and influence of French & Company in building American collections with special interest in the role they played in helping create the Viola E. Bray Renaissance Gallery at the FIA.

Family Activity
Mary Cassatt
Saturday, May 17, 1pm
Join the Education department staff in the galleries to learn more about American artist Mary Cassatt and Impressionism. Then create your own Impressionist art, mount it on card stock, and have a one-of-a-kind card to give Mom for Mother’s Day!
This program is designed for children ages four and up and accompanying adults.
